JSWT Snaps Baby Star's Supersonic Outflow

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) mempublikasikan hasil foto bintang baru, Kamis (14/9).

Terletak 1.000 tahun cahaya jauhnya di Rasi Perseus, foto tersebut menampilkan semburan materi bintang yang melesat dengan kecepatan supersonik dari sebuah bintang muda. Semburan tersebut dinamai Herbig-Haro 211 (HH 211). Protobintang ini secara aktif menghisap gas dan debu di sekelilingnya untuk berkembang menjadi lebih besar, tetapi juga melontarkan materi ke ruang angkasa yang oleh para astronom disebut sebagai aliran bipolar. JWST berhasil memotret momen ketika materi bintang berinteraksi dengan materi benda angkasa menjadi pusaran yang terang dan berwarna-warni.

Protobintang ini diduga sebagai bintang ganda dan dianalogikan sebagai versi awal dari Matahari yang masih berusia tidak lebih dari beberapa puluh ribu tahun.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) released an image of a new star on Thursday (9/14).

Located 1,000 light-years away in the Perseus Constellation, the image features jets of star matter blasting at supersonic speed from the poles of a young star. The jets are together called Herbig-Haro 211 (HH 211). The protostar is actively sucking in surrounding gas and dust to grow larger but is meanwhile shedding material into space in what astronomers call a bipolar outflow. The telescope managed to capture the moments as it interacts with interstellar matter into bright, colorful swirls.

The protostar was suspected to be a binary star and was analogous to an infantile version of our Sun when it was no more than a few tens of thousands of years old.
